Iowa football ventured into Columbus looking for a stunner. The Hawkeyes exited with a 35-7 loss at No. 3 Ohio State that wasn't even that close.
The Buckeyes grabbed control with a 21-point third quarter en route to a 35-0 lead with just under 11 minutes remaining. The Hawkeyes had three turnovers and very little productivity in the second half.
TheHawkeyes(3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) entered as nearly three-touchdown underdogs against the mighty Buckeyes (4-0. 1-0) and understandably so. Ohio State has yielded just 27 points through four games while putting up at least 38 in every one. A 38-7 drubbing of Michigan State last week got Ryan Day's squad off to a good start in Big Ten play.
Iowa did the same in Week 4 at Minnesota, running all over the Golden Gophers in the second half en route to a 31-14 win. The Hawkeyes have pulled an Ohio State stunner before (see: 2017) but will need an even stronger wave of upset magic to do so again.
Live from Ohio Stadium in Columbus, the Register's Tyler Tachman and Chad Leistikow are on hand to document the action this afternoon. Follow both, and keep it locked here on the Hawk Central live blog for updates, analysis and commentary from pregame to postgame.

FINAL: Ohio State 35, Iowa 7.
And it wasn't really that close.
3:33/4Q - One last punt for the Hawkeyes.
Time to turn the focus to Washington.
8:07/4Q - Ohio State 35, Iowa 7.
Kaleb Johnson finds the end zone on a 28-yard run, which finally ends an ugly streak for Iowa. That's the Hawkeyes' first TD vs. a ranked opponent since Joe Evans' scoop-and-score in 2022 at Ohio State.
10:55/4Q - Brendan Sullivan in the game.
Cade McNamara's day is mercifully over. He finished 14-for-20 for 98 yards with one interception and two fumbles. A day to forget indeed.
Sullivan opens with a 30-yard run.
10:58/4Q - Ohio State 35, Iowa 0.
Emeka Egbuka hauls in his third TD catch of the day. He's beaten just about every DB Iowa has to over. Where is the running clock?
14:52/4Q - Another Cade McNamara sack, another Cade McNamara fumble.
Hawkeyes can't get home quick enough.
END 3Q - Ohio State 28, Iowa 0.
To the fourth.
0:13/3Q - Ohio State 28, Iowa 0.
All drama has been removed for this one. After picking up fourth-and-2 with a Brandon Innis 21-yard reception, Emeka Egbuka bullies Kyler Fisher for a 15-yard TD grab. Getting ugly in Columbus.
3:47/3Q - And Iowa gives it right back.
A Cade McNamara pass is tipped, and Ohio State cornerback Davison Igbinosun takes it 45 yards the other way for another big Buckeyes play. Ohio State with great field position again, looking to wrap this up if it isn't already.
7:59/3Q - Ohio State 21, Iowa 0.
Will Howard scampers in to cash in the turnover. First rushing touchdown Iowa has surrendered this year.
9:21/3Q - Double trouble for the Hawkeyes.
On Iowa's first play after the turnover, Cade McNamara is sacked and fumbles deep in Hawkeyes territory. Buckeyes set up nicely at the Iowa 19.
9:34/3Q - Ohio State 14, Iowa 0.
Jeremiah Smith just embarrasses Deshaun Lee on the one-handed TD grab. Feels like the Buckeyes are about to hit the gas here.
5:56/3Q - Finally, Kaleb Johnson breaks loose.
A 28-yard scamper has Iowa in plus territory. It's been tough sledding otherwise.
10:15/3Q - There's the big play Iowa couldn't afford to surrender.
A 53-yard catch from Jeremiah Williams beats Jermari Harris and Quinn Schulte
15:00/3Q - Second half underway.
What do the Hawkeyes have in store next?
HALF - Ohio State 7, Iowa 0.
Hawkeyes hanging in there but still showing little offensive life.
1:00/2Q - Hello Sebastian.
The Buckeyes won't be getting points before the half. Sebastian Castro with a clutch interception. Can Iowa now steal three?
1:21/2Q - Three plays, two yards and a punt.
Buckeyes will start at their own 45 after using all three timeouts to halt the clock.
1:43/2Q - Iowa's defense pulling its weight so far.
Buckeyes punting from plus territory after Iowa forces an incompletion on third-and-8. Hawkeyes are backed up but theoretically have enough time to score before the break.
2:00/2Q - Ohio State ripping off chunk gains on the ground again.
Will Howard and both running backs all finding room to run. Ohio State looking to go up two scores before halftime.
4:28/2Q - Iowa again doesn't do much with the defensive gift.
One first down, then a punt. Ohio State will start at its own 20 after the touchback.
6:59/2Q - Iowa defense comes up with another big stuff to get the ball back.
Jay Higgins with the big-boy strip, and Iowa ends up with the ball at the bottom of a mad scramble. Higgins on the recovery as well. Hawkeyes with another big swing their way.
7:32/2Q - An eventful fourth-and-1 leads to not much for Iowa.
What a sequence. Facing fourth-and-1 from just beyond midfield, Iowa brings out the punt team...and runs a fake punt. But Kirk Ferentz called timeout right before the snap, so the play didn't count. Rhys Dakin shanks the punt to end a disastrous stretch.
9:48/2Q - Big defensive stand from the Hawkeyes.
Yahya Black with a big tackle on Will Howard to stop the fourth-and-short QB draw. Iowa needed that stand badly. Hawkeyes will start right at midfield.
13:23/2Q - A tough zero for the Hawkeyes.
Nice drive from the Hawkeyes, but it runs out of steam just short of the red zone. Drew Stevens' first miss of the year follows from 51. Tough for Iowa to get nothing there.
END 1Q - Ohio State 7, Iowa 0.
Another third-down catch for Jacob Gill as Iowa is knocking on the red-zone door when we return.
2:20/1Q - Jacob Gill continues to shine early.
A big third-down catch after Cade McNamara was drilled upon release. Hawkeyes out past midfield.
3:41/1Q - Ohio State 7, Iowa 0.
Will Howard to Emeka Egbuka for a 14-yard TD pass. On a drive where Ohio State owned things on the ground, it's through the air that creates the points. Rough drive for Quinn Schulte.
7:45/1Q - Ohio State getting it done on the ground early.
A key replay overturn, plus big gains from Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson, have the Buckeyes past midfield. Iowa backend having trouble with containment early.
11:28/1Q - A huge early miss for the Hawkeyes.
Kade Wetjen was open for another big third-down conversion, but Cade McNamara throws it short for a tough incompletion. Great pocket awareness from McNamara to spin out and get a nice scramble drill going. But the throw was not great.
Iowa punting.
13:35/1Q - Nice early completion for Cade McNamara.
Reece Vander Zee converts the first third down of the day on a nice crossing route. Hawkeyes nearing midfield.
15:00/1Q - Ready to rock in Columbus.
Hawkeyes will get the ball first. Cade McNamara could use a decent start.
2:04 p.m. - Cooper DeJean in the house.
Bye week activities.
1:29 p.m. - Seth Anderson in the flesh.
Could he be in for a surprise breakout today?
1:08 p.m. - You’ll hear a lot about the Lachey family today
Check out Chad Leistikow’s feature from earlier in the week.
12:41 p.m. - Iowa's availability report is out
And it's short but noteworthy. Former Ohio State wide receiver is Kaleb Brown is OUT for today's matchup with a leg injury.
It's been a slow start to the year for Brown, who missed Iowa's season opener while serving an OWI suspension and has just one catch for 18 yards on the year. Perhaps it's good timing that Iowa will have wide receiver Seth Anderson back in the fold after he too was sidelined with an injury.

Iowa vs. Ohio State predictions
From our Chad Leistikow: Ohio State 30, Iowa 17 …Johnson goes over 100 yards rushing, and Iowa's offense fares decently against a salty, veteran Buckeyes defense. The Hawkeyes will be competitive into the second half, but Ohio State's firepower is too much. A few big plays from the Buckeyes on both sides of the ball feels inevitable.
