Easy 4 hour crockpot chicken recipe. All you need is chicken, cream of mushroom soup, onion soup mix and water.

Easy Chicken in the Crockpot Recipe

This is such a quick and easy chicken breast recipe because all you need to do is drop the ingredients into the crockpot, turn it on and 4 hours later – it’s ready for you! The chicken is moist, delicious and covered in a cream of mushroom gravy!

And because this recipe is so quick, I’m going to dive straight into the recipe and not talk your ear off. 🙂

Crockpot Chicken and Mushroom Soup Ingredients

Here’s everything you need to make this chicken recipe.

  1. Chicken Breast – Make sure it’s skinless and boneless. You can use anywhere between 1-2 pounds.
  2. Cream of Mushroom Soup – You’ll need 2 cans, or if you’d like try making homemade cream of mushroom soup (it’s really easy!).
  3. Dry Onion Soup Mix – I always have one of these boxes in my cabinet, especially in the Fall/Winter when we’re often using our slow cooker.
Want to make your own? Mix together 1/4 cup dried onion flakes, 2 tablespoons beef bouillon powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley, 1/8 teaspoon celery seed, 1/8 teaspoon paprika and 1/8 teaspoon pepper.
  4. Water – Use water or you can also use chicken broth if you want to.

How to Make Slow Cooker Chicken

Add chicken breasts into the slow cooker.

Mix mushroom soup, soup mix and water together in a bowl.

Pour this mixture into the slow cooker on top of the chicken.

Cook and serve! So easy, right?

I hope you enjoy this crockpot chicken meal for dinner!

Gravy for Chicken

This slow cooker meal makes plenty of extra gravy to add to the chicken and to the mashed potatoes on the side. There’s no need to make any extra gravy for this meal, so you get to skip a step here!

What to Serve With Mushroom Chicken?

Serve with easy mashed potatoes, crockpot baked potatoes, mashed cauliflower or scalloped potatoes and your favorite vegetables, we love broccoli, corn and slow cooker mushrooms.

You can also shred up the chicken and serve on top of rice for a simple chicken and rice meal!

I’m making this right now. I substituted the onion soup mix for 2 packs of chicken noodle Supreme cup of soup for my broth, instead of just water also. I added my own spices as well. I guess I’ll see what happens, but thank you for the basic info for this recipe. I will be saving it for future reference.

I made this exactly as the recipe instructed and it was delicious! The chicken breasts were fall-apart tender and the recipe makes a lot of delicious gravy. Excellent flavor and very easy to make!

I didn’t want to alter the recipe on first try but I doubled it and only had one can of cream of mushroom and three cans of cream of chicken soup. Followed the rest of the recipe as written and cooked on low. EASY AND DELISH. Can’t believe how much gravy (I like lots!). Paired with cooked collards and kale mix, stuffing and rice (options since I doubled the recipe). Can’t wait to try again with just the cream of mushroom soup. 😋 Thanks for sharing

Fantastic! Great flavor from a recipe that is so simple. Once the cooking was done I shredded the chicken in my plate over mashed potatoes. Reminded me of my all-time favorite school lunch back in the day (turkey gravy over mashed potatoes). This is going in regular rotation for our dinners!

Ranch dressing packet mixed in makes it even more tasty. This recipe is delicious. I have made it several ways and also with pork chops. It’s really rich, creamy, and goes well over rice, potatoes, or egg noodles.

Goes really well if you add some thick sliced Yukon Gold potatoes underneath, too. Just adjust liquid amount a little. Tons of other minor modifications work too. This is a killer base for whatever you wanna do to make a great dinner.

Are you using the whole box of 2 packets of onion soup mix, or just one of the 2 packets?

Can I use onion dip mix instead of onion soup mix?

I’ve never tried it, but if you have these ingredients on hand you can make your own dry onion soup mix! Mix together 1/4 cup dried onion flakes, 2 tablespoons beef bouillon powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley, 1/8 teaspoon celery seed, 1/8 teaspoon paprika and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Hope this helps!
